Gubal Island
The name Bluff Point refers to the prominent, steeply sloping point on the northeastern side of Little Gubal Island.
A varied drift dive along the reef wall, provided the current and weather conditions allow it.
The dive usually begins near the lighthouse, with the current carrying divers south along the reef.
The steep wall drops to around 35 metres and features small canyons, overhangs and a variety of coral formations.
Further south, the reef becomes shallower and forms a plateau at approximately 15 to 20 metres.
The exposed point offers excellent opportunities to observe larger marine life in the blue.
Napoleon wrasse, turtles, giant trevally and eagle rays are regular visitors along the reef wall and above the plateau. Moray eels are commonly found inside cracks and overhangs, while lionfish are also typical residents of the site. Dolphins may occasionally pass along the reef.
Bluff Point lies on the northeastern side of Little Gubal Island, approximately 40 kilometres from El Gouna. The journey takes around 2.5 hours each way with our daily boat Vienna and approximately 45 minutes with the speedboat Blue Sister.
The reef wall at the northeastern point drops to approximately 35 metres. Divers can choose their depth along the wall according to their experience and certification level. Further south, the reef becomes shallower and forms a plateau at around 15 to 20 metres.
The current can be strong, especially around the point. Divers should remain close to the reef, stay with their buddy and follow the guide. When conditions are suitable, the dive begins near the lighthouse, allowing the current to carry the group south along the reef wall.
The current and wave conditions must always be checked before the dive. Bluff Point may not be accessible or safe to dive during high waves or unfavourable conditions.
Bluff Point is an exposed dive site whose accessibility depends heavily on wind, waves and current. Conditions can change quickly, particularly around the point. In stronger currents, the site is best suited to experienced divers with good buoyancy control and previous drift-diving experience.
